Dowie Doole

DOWIE DOOLE came to fruition in 1995, when architect/grapegrower Drew Dowie joined forces with international banker/grape grower Norm Doole and Leigh Gilligan, grape-grower and veteran wine marketer.

They realised from the start that the strength of DOWIE DOOLE was the suite of widely-varying premium vineyards that the partners could draw upon.  From the coastal south-east of the prime Willunga Basin, through Blewett Springs, onto the cooler Willunga escarpment, and right into the higher country over the ridge, these vineyards provide a range of flavours and ripening timeframes that are second to none in this beautiful region on the Gulf St Vincent, patron of viticulturers.

From its inception, DOWIE DOOLE has striven to make finer, more elegant wines than mainstream Australia.

From the entry-level wines to the sublime, all DOWIE DOOLE products have been grown, made, matured, packaged and released to fit quite specific parts of price scale, the market, and your dining table.

Dowie Doole has joined forces with Gemtree to present their wines in a tasting room and garden at the renowned regional McLaren Vale restaurant, the Salopian Inn. The historic venue was built in 1851 and features modern architectural design by Drew Dowie, one of the co-owners of Dowie Doole. Gemtree and Dowie Doole’s exclusive wine club, 1851 has been made in honour of the heritage associated with the Salopian Inn.

At cellar door visitors are invited, for a small charge, to taste the wines of these boutique wineries served with a plate of regional cheese and lavosh whilst sitting at a table looking out over vineyards. The unique wine flight program gives you the opportunity to compare, contrast, experience, and explore the wines in an educational and enjoyable manner.

Friendly and knowledgeable local hosts are available to advise, discuss, and inform you about our wines, wineries, food, and the glorious McLaren Vale region.
